Holé Molé Cocktail

The idea for a molé cocktail came from one of our trips to Puerto Vallarta. We had dinner at a wonderful restaurant called Tintoqué and they served a similar drink. When we returned home we came up with this version using a molé nectar and tamarind simple syrup.

The Holé Molé Cocktail is naturally gluten free.

The Ingredients For A Holé Molé Cocktail

  • 1 Ounce Tamarind Syrup
  • 1 Ounce Mezcal
  • 1 Ounce Habañero Infused Tequila
  • 1 Ounce Agave Syrup
  • 3 Ounces Molé Nectar
  • Molé Chip for garnish

Ice and Tamarind Simple Syrup In A Shaker

We’ll start our cocktail by putting a few ice cubes in a shaker and then add 1 ounce of Tamarind Syrup. You can see the recipe for how to make that here. the Tamarind Syrup is really just simple syrup with the sour citrusy flavor of tamarind added when we make it.

1 Ounce Mexcal

Next we are going to add 1 ounce of mezcal. This will bring a little smoky flavor to our cocktail.

1 Ounce Habañero Infused Tequila

And we’ll add 1 ounce of habañero infused tequila. This will give a nice bit of heat to the beverage. You can make this by putting some tequila in a pint jar, cutting up a habañero and then putting it in the tequila for 4 to 24 hours. Taste the tequila and then strain out the habañero when it is hot enough for you.

1 Ounce Agave Syrup

We will add 1 ounce of agave syrup. This will add a little sweetness to the drink. It seems appropriate to use a sweetener made with agave to go with the mezcal and tequila, also made from agave.

3 Ounces Molé Nectar

Lastly we will add 3 ounces of Molé Nectar. The recipe for making Molé Nectar is here. This is a concotion we came up with to make molé into something drinkable.

Shake Thoroughly

We might add a little more ice to the shaker and then shake thoroughly. This tends to be a bit thick so it requires some work to get it all blended perfectly.

Strain Into Cocktail Glass

We’re going to put some new ice in a cocktail glass and ten strain the cocktail into it. You can just pour the contents of the shaker into a glass, ice and all but this is a little classier.

Garnish With Molé Chip

lastly we will garnish our cocktail with a Molé Chip. The recipe for making the molé chip is here.
