Mayonnaise

We’ll start this quick and easy recipe by putting the mayonnaise in a small mixing bowl. We like Duke’s mayonnaise but you can use whatever you prefer. You can use light mayonnaise if you’re watching the calories.

Sweet Relish

We think that pickles are kind of the star of this recipe and we like the sweet pickle relish for the combination of tang and sweetness. You can experiment with other kinds of relish for different flavor profiles.

Ketchup

Thousand Island Dressing is one of the few things we use ketchup for here in the 2 Cooks kitchen. We haven’t found a substitution for it in this recipe, it’s just an essential flavor.

Vinegar

To add a little more tang we will use a teaspoon of white vinegar. You could use apple cider vinegar here if you want but we don’t really need the fruitiness here.

Tabasco

We’ll add a few shakes of Tabasco sauce to give our dressing a little heat. If you are making a traditional shrimp or crab louie you can add some horseradish as well.

Worcestershire Sauce

We’ll also add a generous shake of worcestershire sauce. This is the secret sauce that elevates so many recipes with its umami flavor.

Red Onion

Next we’ll add our very finely chopped red onion. We want this chopped fairly small so there aren’t any large chunks in our dressing.

Garlic and Salt

We can’t make thousand island dressing without a little bit of garlic. This dressing shouldn’t be garlic forward like so many recipes we love so we’re just adding a little bit minced well.

Mix

We’ll finish with a pinch of salt and then mix our dressing well. Cover and refrigerate for at least an hour before serving to let the flavors marry. That’s it for this recipe.
